When it comes to flying, you get what you pay for.
Unlike my experience flying Air Canada to get to Korea, my trip from Seoul to Hong Kong was about as uncomfortable as they get.
The first mistake was opting to fly out of Incheon International Airport at 10:35pm.
As is commonplace in air travel our flight was delayed. The Captain of our Hong Kong Express flight was telling us that the delay was out of their control due to runway traffic. Seeing as though Incheon International Airport is one of the top traveled airports in the entire world (19th busiest airport in the world with 62.1 million travelers serviced in 2017) I'll take them at their word.
Having a flight delayed to an 11:15pm takeoff because of runway traffic seems a bit odd to this seasoned traveler. That being said the flight attendants were ready for take off at our scheduled time and didn't seem to be prepping the flight any further while we waited.
The aircraft we used was an Airbus A320. A plane that has one center aisle and rows of seats that are three-by-three. The seats appeared appealing to the naked eye as they were multicolored leather to the airways color scheme but upon sitting down you'll notice they're very uncomfortable.
To be honest, I walked off the flight with my butt hurting. I was basically sitting on plastic that had a fancy leather cover.
I was able to sleep for two hours of the 3:35 flight to Hong Kong. Little did I know that would be the only amount of sleep I'd get in the 30 hour period of our last day in Incheon until we ended our first day exploring Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Express is a budget airlines that services several close proximity cities around Asia to Hong Kong. To get a meal or drink on the flight you do have to pay extra. Drinks can be bought on the flight itself and meals you can preorder when you buy your ticket online.
I opted to not buy a drink and I didn't preorder a meal as the flight wasn't that long and being that late at night I knew I'd prefer to sleep. Which I did. I can't tell you much about the flight attendants because I didn't interact with them but upon observing them they seemed to be great at what they do.
Their uniforms were really spiffy as well.
If you're looking for a budget flight from Seoul to Hong Kong, this is the way to go. If you're willing to spend a little bit more for a more pampered ride then I'd definitely recommend a different airlines.
Either way, don't take a flight that leaves at 10:35pm. Especially if you're busy during the day of the flight and can't nap to make up for the lost sleep while you travel and make it to Hong Kong at an ungodly hour of the morning.
